Complete Environmental shaping

Although the sad reality is that this game may never be completed, I am considering allowing for complete environment shaping. Here's what I mean:

In most survival-style games you can cut down trees, mine rocks and gather plants, then it re-spawns.
In my game when you chop down a tree, mine or gather the resource disappears.
Trees will re-grow if planted and you'll have to dig closer to bed rock for minerals.

The problem with trees coming back automatically is that people could lag up the entirety of the map with buildings without ever having to worry how many trees they destroy, but in my system the lag will be minimal because (1) there won't be as many trees set to re-spawn after being chopped down and (2) players will have to specially plant the trees they want. This will also make the game more interesting because if you want to hide your base you'll have to be careful to go to another location to gather your wood and other materials.

In summery it would decrease lag, add more strategy and more realistic.

Ideally my game would allow players to do anything a bronze age person could do: including dig many meters down to create pits that are near-impossible to escape.
